HOW TO SURVIVE A HEART ATTACK WHEN ALONE

Let’s say it’s 6.15pm and you’re going home (alone of course), after an unusually hard day on the job. You’re really tired, upset and frustrated. Suddenly you start experiencing severe pain in your chest that starts to drag out into your arm and up into your jaw. You are only about five miles from the hospital nearest your home. Unfortunately you don’t know if you’ll be able to make it that far. You have been trained in CPR, but the guy that taught the course did not tell you how to perform it on yourself..!!

NOW HOW TO SURVIVE A HEART ATTACK WHEN ALONE…

Since many people are alone when they suffer a heart attack, without help, the person whose heart is beating improperly and who begins to feel faint, has only about 10 seconds left before losing consciousness.

However, these victims can help themselves by coughing repeatedly and very vigorously.

A deep breath should be taken before each cough, and the cough must be deep and prolonged, as when producing sputum from deep inside the chest.

A breath and a cough must be repeated about every two seconds without let-up until help arrives, or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again.

Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating.

The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart attack victims can perhaps buy precious time to get themselves to a phone and dial 911.

If no one’s told you this recently, I want you to know that you’re beautiful.

You don’t need to lose weight, you don’t need to gain weight, you don’t need more make-up, you don’t need different clothes, you don’t need to hide the scars of your past. You are already so beautiful, just the way you are. You just need to realize that and freakin own it. I believe that you have a confidence deep within you and it’s time to let it loose.

one thing that really pushes my buttons is the ways in which teachers test students.

Today, in a discussion for my Political Economy of Development class, we had our first quiz.

5 questions, multiple choice.. easy, right?

    WRONG.

Our TA told us that the quizzes would be composed of very basic questions to make sure we have done the readings.

At first I was very ecstatic about this news.. the quizzes would be very simple.

One glance at the quiz and my jaw dropped.

You’ve got to be kidding me.. I thought to myself.

How on earth does it make sense to quiz us on questions with little to no relevance at all?
“What was the book that the kids read to learn about America?”

    a) harry potter

    b) tin-tin

    c) curious george

    d) some other random children’s book

    or

    SERIOUSLY?

I thought that the quiz would be about important topics of the readings not random facts.

If we read…maybe we would know all of the minute details..but what good does that do if we don’t understand the conceptual meaning of it all?

Quizzes where you need to know all the tiny details are so stupid. It just doesn’t make sense because when I read, I usually take note of information that would be beneficial to know…

    “What color was the curtain?”
